Prince Harry’s Inner Circle: Meet His Famous Friends

Through thick and thin! Prince Harry‘s journey from life as a working member of the royal family in the U.K. to making a life with his family in Montecito was not an easy decision to make.

Luckily, Harry has made many famous friends throughout the years to help make the transition easier.

Harry’s popularity with celebrities started before his big move with his wife, Meghan Markle, and their son Archie. The pair have been able to rely on friends such as George and Amal Clooney for some privacy following intense scrutiny from the public and negative press affecting the Suits alum.

Us Weekly exclusively confirmed that Duke and Duchess of Sussex spent the weekend at the Clooney’s house in Lake Como in August 2018.

“The Clooneys had personally invited Meghan and Harry to their home at the beginning of the summer with an open invitation,” a source told Us. “George and Amal were so happy to host Meghan and Harry. Harry and George have a special bond and friendship.”

Following a difficult time trying to adjust to life in the royal family, the pair announced that they were stepping back from their duties as working members in January 2020. They briefly stayed in Vancouver, Canada, before relocating to California and leaning on friend Tyler Perry when their security was taken away from them following their official exit.

“We didn’t have a plan,” Meghan shared in their CBS tell-all interview in March 2021. “We needed a house and he [Tyler] offered his security as well, so it gave us breathing room to try to figure out what we were going to do.”

During the duo’s adjustment to their new life in California, they received plenty of support regarding their decision not to return to their senior roles at the palace.

Margot Robbie, for her part, said that Harry and his wife had “their reasons for moving” in February 2020.

“I have known Prince Harry for a while and he is a really great guy,” she told The Sun at the time. “I know as much as anybody what a big decision it is to move halfway across the world. I still miss London a lot, but I had my reasons for moving and they have their reasons for the decision.”

The Suicide Squad actress added, “It isn’t something taken lightly.“

More recently, Harry revealed during an appearance on Dax Shepard‘s “Armchair Expert” podcast in May 2021 that his life in Santa Barbara allows him and his growing family to walk “a little more free.” The royal shared that he even made friends with neighbor Orlando Bloom.

“English lads they gotta stick together!” Katy Perry teased to Access Hollywood that same month about her fiancé’s new friendship.

Ellie Goulding

The “Love Me Like You Do” singer became fast friends with the royal family after performing at the wedding reception of Prince William and Duchess Kate in April 2011. Three years later, she sang at Harry’s 30th birthday party as well as the Invictus Games. There was even speculation at one point that Harry and Goulding were a couple, but they never confirmed the rumors.

James Blunt

Harry and the “You’re Beautiful” singer have been friends for years. They even served in the Army together. Blunt also performed at the 2016 Invictus Games after being personally invited by Harry via text message.

David Beckham

The athlete and the prince have been close for a while. In a 2012 interview with Esquire, Beckham said he considers both Harry and William as friends, saying, “It’s a very normal relationship. … They’re very easy to get along with.” Harry and Beckham later hung out together at an event honoring Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in June 2016. (David and Victoria Beckham also attended William and Kate’s nuptials.)

Tom Hardy

The Dark Knight Rises star was on the guest list for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding after he, Harry and William appeared in a deleted scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

In his January 2023 memoir, Spare, Harry revealed that he borrowed Hardy’s Mad Max: Fury Road costume for a Halloween party he attended with Meghan in 2016.

Elton John

The music icon was friends with Harry and William’s mother, Princess Diana. After her death in 1997, John remained close with the brothers. He also attended William and Kate’s wedding and joined Harry at the International AIDS Conference in July 2017.

Joss Stone

The “You Had Me” songstress has supported the former Army helicopter pilot’s Sentebale charity for years. They spent some time together backstage at a concert benefitting the organization in June 2016, and she even teased him about his dancing. “He’s just a lovely guy,” she told Hello! magazine at the time. “I’ve come into contact with Harry and William for years now and, as a country, we watch them grow and we watch them do lovely things and I think all of us as a nation should be proud of those boys, those men.”

Harry and the former president and first lady have bonded through the years over their charitable efforts. Barack and former vice president Joe Biden supported Harry at the 2017 Invictus Games, a few months after the Obamas visited Kensington Palace for dinner with Harry, William and Kate.

The “Work” singer met the prince in her home country of Barbados during a royal tour of the Caribbean. They spent some time together at various events and even took HIV tests on camera to raise awareness about the virus.

Cara Delevingne

Margot Robbie revealed in multiple 2016 interviews that her Suicide Squad costar exchanges text messages — and sometimes prank calls — with Harry. Delevingne later told Love magazine that she and Robbie both had dreams about the royal one night, to which Harry responded via text, “You two are obviously together. But I’m extremely glad I was in your dreams.”

Robbie revealed that she didn’t recognize the royal at first and confused him for Ed Sheeran.

“Actually, when I saw him in those glasses, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I didn’t know Ed Sheeran was at the party.’ He got really offended,” she said on The Tonight Show in March 2016.

Robbie added: “He wasn’t wearing a crown though! Like, I don’t know it’s a prince!”

When Harry and Meghan stayed at Perry’s home for three months, they were close to Adele’s house in Los Angeles.

Vanity Fair reported in May 2020 that the singer “swapped notes on the area” with the royal couple and even shared “discreet places to take Archie where they won’t be bombarded by fans.”
