A decade on from the artist’s first collaboration with the storied fashion house, Yayoi Kusama has teamed up with Louis Vuitton on a collection that will likely excite the fashion crowd as much as the first did.
The collection spans across men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, bags, shoes, accessories, luggage, trunks and fragrances – and it will appear in two parts, each with distinct thematic directions reflecting Kusama’s motifs and motivations.
Today, the first drop of the special-edition collection has launched, which is centred around Kusama’s painted dots, metal dots, infinity dots and psychedelic flowers. Fans got a glimpse of some of these accessories back in May 2021 when the idea was teased during the house’s cruise show, which took place in San Diego.
“The last time that Louis Vuitton met the magic of Yayoi Kusama was in 2012,” the brand said in a release today. “Yet this relationship never ended – 10 years after, it evolved, and expanded with conversations continued and extended.”
Back in 2012, the Japanese artist brought her signature dots to Marc Jacobs’ Louis Vuitton in a collection that spanned ready-to-wear and accessories, and soon became one of fashion’s most exciting art collaborations of all time, and a real collectors’ favourite.
In celebration of the next step in this relationship, Louis Vuitton has gone all out, setting up Kusama art installations in cities across the world. In London, these are scattered throughout Mayfair and the collection is also being featured on the screens in Piccadilly Circus, while all stores across the city have been wrapped in the brand’s Kusama animations.
The first release of the Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama collection launches today, while the second drop will be available from 31 March. Shop drop one and find out more about the collection and inspiration here.
